Blue Angel for Clariant OBA

Clariant OBAs for Blue Angel Compliance
Consumers and buyers regard the Blue Angel eco-label for recycled paper as an indication that the paper conforms to the highest ecological standards. First introduced in Germany, Blue Angel is rapidly gaining interest elsewhere in the world, especially in Spain, the UK and the U.S.. Before 2009, papers containing OBAs were excluded from Blue Angel compliance. As of January 2009, SC, LWC, MWC and HWC papers may be produced using specific OBAs.
From the Clariant global range, permitted optical brightening agents include:

  • Leucophor UO liq
  • Leucophor UKO liq
  • Leucophor UHF liq
  • Leucophor VF liq

Applicants for Blue Angel compliance must either present a declaration from the OBA supplier that at least 95% of the OBA is fixed to the substrate or provide a test certificate prepared by an independent institute certifying a bleedfastness no less than grade 5 according to European Standard EN 648.
